Northern Humboldt

Website

On the north side of Humboldt Lagoons State Park, tucked away on the east side of Highway 101, is Freshwater Lagoon, a popular place for fishing, boating (no motors), kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.  With the Pacific Ocean just a few feet away, the area offers family fun in two diverse environments.
How to get there:
Located about 20 minutes north of Trinidad right along Highway 101.  There is some parking on the east side of the highway but much more on the beach side.  There is also a turn-out at the north side of the lagoon that will give you easier access to the water.
More info:
Please use extreme caution when crossing Highway 101 to get from one side to the other.   Roosevelt can often be spotted throughout the area so be sure to keep your eyes open for these magnificent creatures.
Other things to do in the area:
Big Lagoon, Dry Lagoon and Stone Lagoon are all located to the south of Freshwater Lagoon.  Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is just north and is a pretty amazing place to spend an afternoon.
