Manila - Manila Dunes Recreation Area

This 150-acre beach has wide open space and trails within the dunes. It's a fun place to explore in a pretty low-key area.  There are also some viewing points from the top on some of the dunes.
How to get there:
From Arcata, take Highway 255 toward Manila.  Peninsula Drive will be on your right.  Follow the road until you see the Manila Community Center which will be on your right.
From Eureka, cross the bridge to Highway 255 and make a right at the light.  Peninsula Drive will be on your left. Follow Peninsula Drive until you see the Manila Community Center which will be on your left.
More info:
Park at the Manila Community Center.  The trailhead is on the back side of the building.  Dogs are permitted on leash or with voice command.  Horses are welcome on designated trails.  No camping here. 
Other things to do in the area:
At the end of New Navy Base Road (south) is the Samoa Dunes Recreation Area.  Head toward Arcata and enjoy the breathtaking views at the Arcata Marsh and Wildlife Sanctuary. There are also quite a few Art Galleries & Museums nearby.
