Petrolia - Punta Gorda Recreation Area

Lighthouse Road
Petrolia, California 95558
Southwest Humboldt

The Punta Gorda Recreation Area is one of the most remote recreation areas in Humboldt County and it's worth every second it takes to get there.  It offers camping, hiking, fishing, beachcombing, plenty of space to enjoy the peace & beauty and much more.
This recreation area really is quite incredible.  If you're looking for some "wow" in your trip to the beach, you'll find it here.  The drive from Ferndale is pretty incredible too.

How to get there:
From Ferndale, take Mattole Road to Petrolia.  After you go through Petrolia, you'll go over Mill Creek and Lighthouse Road will be on your right.  Take Lighthouse Road all the way to until it ends which will be the Trailhead/Camping area.
From Highway 101, take the South Fork/Honeydew exit west to Petrolia.  Lighthouse Road will be on your left before you reach the town of Petrolia.  Take Lighthouse Road until it ends which will be the Trailhead/Camping area.
Camping info:
Camping is self-pay and only $8/night.  Click the link for more information about Camping at the Mattole Campground.
More info:
Bring some food for a picnic and plenty of beach toys to make a day of it.
Other things to do in the area:
If you're looking for an inspiring adventure, take the remote hike to the Punta Gorda Lighthouse.
A.W. Way County Park is pretty close as well and has access to swimming in the Mattole River.
