Petrolia - Camping at Arthur W. Way County Park

Located on land donated by former lawyer, entrepreneur and state senator, Arthur W. Way, the park sits on the Mattole River and offers camping, a playground and plenty of room for a picnic with both open and shaded areas.  There are also some fantastic swimming spots in the Mattole River.
There is a day-use fee of of $5. 
How to get there:
The park is approximatley 31 miles west of Highway 101 from the South Fork / Honeydew exit.  You can also reach it from Ferndale by taking Mattole Road.   The Ferndale route is about 35 miles and is a long but beautiful drive.
Camping info:
There are 30 campsites at the park and they are on a first come, first served basis.  Each site is $20/night/car.  Bike camping is $8. Each of the sites have a picnic table and fire ring.  There are bathrooms and showers (quarters required).

Other things to do in the area:
The Punta Gorda Recreation Area is nearby and featues the incredible hike to Punta Gorda Lighthouse.
