When we published our list of 11 Great Reasons to Shop at Humboldt County Farmers' Markets, we knew there would be the need to post a follow-up because there are just so many reasons to make the trip. We also wanted to share with you what road trips have to do with Farmers' Markets and where to find the cheapest, healthiest produce.

If you prefer organically grown produce, you can find it at a Humboldt Farmers' Market and usually cheaper than at national grocery chains where organic foods are often treated as "specialty" items and priced accordingly.

Farmers' Markets have long had a reputation for being a more expensive alternative to national grocery chains and to some degree, justifiably so . However, this is no longer the case. In fact, on a cost/pound basis, many items found at Farmers' Markets are very competitively priced or even cheaper than national chains.

Seasonal produce is packed with more nutrients and antioxidants because it's grown and picked during its natural cycle and doesn't spend days being stored and shipped. It also has less of an impact on the environment and keeps more money in Humboldt.
