Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a true gem of the California State Parks System and is home to almost 45 percent of all of the old-growth redwood forest remaining in California.  The park offers hiking and biking trails (75 miles worth!), camping, beachcombing, redwood and beach picknicking and much more.  It's also home to Gold Bluffs Beach and the incredible Fern Canyon
How to get there:
1) Traveling north or south on Highway 101, take Davison Road* west.  Davison road, which is three miles north of Orick, quickly turns into a narrow gravel road and is 8 miles to the park entrance.  This will lead you to Gold Bluffs Beach and Fern Valley.
2)  Newton B. Drury Scenic Parkway takes you right through the park, with plenty of places to stop along the way, and to the Prairie Creek Visitor Center.
Camping info:
There are two campgrounds at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park and each are $35/night.
Gold Bluffs Beach Campground has 26 spot for RVs (24 foot max) or tent camping on a first come, first served basis.  There are no hook-ups but the grounds do offer solar showers, picnic tables, firepits and barbeques.  There are also restroom facilities and food lockers.
Elk Prairie Campground is also located in Prairie Creek State Park and has 75 family sites and sites for those hiking and/or biking through the miles of trails in the park and beyond.  The campground is open year-round and offers hot showers, picnic tables, fire pits, barbeques and food lockers.  The bathrooms are ADA Accessible.  Elk Prairie Campground is located on Newton B. Drury Parkway.
More info:
*Davison Road has vehicle restrictions which we highly encourage visitors to follow.  Vehicles wider than 8', longer than 24' and trailers are prohibited.  There is a visitor center, nature store and seasonal interpretive talks and guided walks.  For more information on Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, visit its Website.
