Mt. Diablo is unique in that at its peak (less than 4,000 feet), you can still see for miles and miles due to the much smaller, rolling hills that surround it.  The park also featues a varity of cultural and historical sites, exhibits & programs, wildlife viewing, picnic opportunities and camping (from some spots you can see the Golden Gate Bridge!).  Hiking, photography and horseback riding are also popular activities at the park.
How to get there:
Mt. Diablo State Park is just east of Walnut Creek in the East Bay.  Check out our map for your best route to get there.
More info:
Dogs are only permitted in developed parts of the park and they must be leashed.  Visit the Mt. Diablo Website for more information.
Other things to do in the area:
Mt. Diablo is pretty close to some other pretty cool parks in the area.  Wildcat Canyon in Richmond, Briones is in Martinez, Tilden in Berkeley and Redwood Regional Park in Oakland are all worth a visit.
