As the beauty of new growth springs up all around Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, the City of Redding is thrilled to announce a summer art exhibit focusing on the wonders to be explored at Whiskeytown. Redding City Hall is filled with a curated selection from the National Park Service's Artists in Residence Program collection. In addition, plein air artists Jim Geil and Erin Friedman, with other local artists, round out the exhibit with their take on some of the best parts of Whiskeytown.

The reception will be held at City Hall on Thursday, June 20, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A light reception and the artwork of Whiskeytown’s landscapes will take place on the second floor. Music artists will perform acoustic originals inspired by surrounding nature as well as some classic covers.

“Wonderful Whiskeytown” will be exhibited through August 2019, and is open to the public Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., excluding federal holidays at Redding City Hall.

*Art in the City is part of the Art in Public Places program dedicated to creating community through people, parks, and programs.
*Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service and provides an exceptionally wide variety of recreational experience, including boating, swimming, kayaking, biking, hiking, fishing, hunting, and horseback riding

Description

The City of Redding is the county seat of Shasta County and sits at the north end of the Sacramento Valley on Interstate 5, equidistant between Seattle and Los Angeles. Redding is the largest city north of Sacramento and, as such, is the center of trade and commerce in the upstate region of northern California.
