Whiskeytown - Camping at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is a great place to camp, hike, bike and play in the water.  Just west of Redding, this gorgeous park has a handful of different campsites including;

Oak Bottom (Tent/RV) -->  This 94 site campground is open year-round.  Flush toilets, potable water and showers are available.  These campsites are $24/$26 (shoreline) during the summer and $14 during the winter  Reservations suggested. 
The 22 RV spots are open year-round and are $20/night. 

Brandy Creek (RV) -->  The 37 spots are open year-round and are $15/night on a first come/first-served basis.  There are no showers or toilets but there is potable water available.
There are two tent sites available here that are $15/night.  There are vault toilets available but no showers or potable water. 

Dry Creek (Group Camp) --> 2 sites with vault toilets and no showers.  Generally open from April 1 through Halloween.  $80/night.  Reservations are required.  There is potable water and vaults toilets but no shower facilities. 

Sheep Camp -->  The 4 campsites are $15/night and are on a first come/first-served basis.  Vault toilets are available but there is no water or shower facilities.  

Peltier Bridge -->  These 9 sites are all near Clear Creek and are pretty primitive (no water, toilets or showers).  They are $15/night and are on a first come/first-served basis.  

Horse Camp -->  Horse Camp is the only campground at Whiskey Lake where horses are allowed.  The campground is open year-round and spots are $15/night.  These 2 sites are on a first come/first-served basis and offer potable water and vault toilets. 

Crystal Creek -->  These two campsites are open during the Spring, Summer and Fall and cost $15/night.  There are no amenities here and are close to Crystal Creek. 

Coggins Park -->  This one campsite is pretty remote (you need four-wheel drive to get to it) and offers no amenities.  It is $15/night and is on a first come/first-served basis. 

Primitive Campsites -->  Whiskeytown also has a handful of primitive campgrounds.  The camping permit for overnight backpacking in undeveloped areas is issued at no cost but your vehicle must display a valid park pass.  
 

The Park:
This 39,000-acre park is home to a wide variety of both water and land activities.  There are over 70 miles of trails, some leading to the four waterfalls you can find within the park, a marina, an ampitheatre, plenty of picnic & barbeque areas, gorgeous beaches with plenty of swimming areas and much more. 

How to get there:
Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is on Highway 299, 10 milles west of Redding and 35 miles east of Weaverville.
