Lassen Volcanic National Park - Butte Lake

Butte Lake Road
Old Station (11 miles east of), California 96071
Lassen County
Phone: 530-595-4480

Butte Lake is one of our favorite Lassen Volcanic National Park Lakes because of its remoteness and unique layout.  Located near the base of Cinder Cone, close to Painted Dunes and along the Fantastic Lava Beds, Butte Lake offers kayaking, swimming, canoeing and other non-motorized lake activities.  Fishing is also popular at Butte Lake.
There are a number of hiking trails that offer fantastic views of the lake as Cinder Cone and Mt. Lassen stand boldly in the background.

Camping info:
You can camp at Butte Lake Campground which is within walking distance of the lake.
More info:
Bring some food and enjoy a picnic at the Butte Lake Day-Use area.  There are bathrooms and drinking water at the day-use area.
How to get there:
Once you turn east on Highway 44 (Old Station) from Highway 89, the turn is on your right about 11 miles down the road.  You'll see a sign for it on Highway 44.  From Highway 44, it's about 6 miles down a dirt road to reach the camgpround.  Check out the map for more specific directions.
Other things to do in the area:
Take a hike up Cinder Cone for spectacular views of Butte Lake, Painted Dunes, Mt. Lassen and the surrounding area.  The Subway Cave, Hat Creek Radio Observatory and Burney Falls aren't too far away.  Click HERE for more info about Lassen Volcanic National Park.
