Orland - Black Butte Lake Recreation Area

At capacity, the lake has forty miles of shoreline, is seven miles long and covers an area of 4,460 acres.  Powerboats, personal watercraft and sailboats are welcome at the lake and there is plenty of room for all three.  
Bring your fishing poles; especially in the spring and early summer months as the lake is known throughout the state for being an excellent warm water fishery and is very popular with those who like to fish. 
The recreation area itself has over 20 miles of hiking, biking, and nature trails, picnic tables that overlook the lake and also at lake level and plenty of opportunity for wildlife viewing.  There is also a disc golf course as well as playgrounds at the Buckhorn Recreation Area within the park. 

Camping info:
There are two campgrounds at Black Butte Lake; Orland Buttes and Buckhorn and both have all the amenities you would expect at a good campground; picnic tables, fire pits, launch ramps, dump stations and even showers.   
How to get there:

From I-5 in Orland, take Newville Road West and it will lead you right to the lake.

Other things to do in the area: 
The Farm Sanctuary is nearby and definitely worth a visit.  Nearby Corning hosts world-class Olive Oil Tasting and the Corning Museum, which offers quite a bit of history on the area, is a great place to visit.  If you're looking to get the adrenaline pumping, catch a race at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows.
