Chester - Butt Valley Reservoir

Prattville - Butt Reservior Road

Website

Butt Valley Reservoir has quickly become one of our favorite lakes in the area.  Being near the more popular Lake Almanor, it is less populated but just as beautiful and fun.
The lake features camping, a boat launch and plenty of places to play in the water.  Sail boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing (the trout are great!) and tubing are just a few of the popular activites here.
How to get there:
From Highway 36 (on the west side of Lake Almanor), take Highway 89 south.  A few miles later you'll see Prattville-Butt Reservoir Road; take it to the right. Follow until you reach the Reservoir.
Camping info:

Butt Valley Reservoir has two campgrounds; Cool Springs and Ponderosa Flat.  Both campgrounds are located right on the water and offer the basic amenities.  Click the links for each to get more information about camping at Butt Valley Reservoir or visit our Camping Section for other nearby places to camp.
More info:
Motorized fishing boats are allowed but water skiing and jet skiing are not.  The lake has a strict boating speed limit which helps keep the area chill.
