If you're looking for photographic history of the pre-Lake Almanor era of Big Meadows; specifically the pioneer communities and settlers of the area, the Chester/Lake Almanor Museum should be on your list of places to visit in Plumas County.
The Museum, located in an almost 100-year old building shared with the library, also has an interesting collection of memorabilia from the early dairy and cattle ranching time period, early logging days, gold mining and tourism. There is also a nice collection of Maidu Indian Baskets.
How to get there:
From Highway 36, take Willow Way and you'll see the Library/Museum building in front of you on first street.
More info:
The Museum is open Monday-Friday; 10am-5pm.
