What's out there?!?!  Located out where interference is much less of an issue, the Observatory was founded by the University of California, Berkeley almost seventy years ago for use by the research community.
The Observatory Park is now open for self-guided and guided (you need make a reservation for this one) tours of the facility. 
How to get there: 
The Observatory is located off of Highway 89; between Highway 299 and Highway 44.  Check out the map for your best route to get there.

Paul Allen (Microsoft) donated the original $25 million to get the Observatory up and running. 
Other things to do in the area: 
The Subway Cave Lava Tube is close by.   McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park is just a short drive away and you can't beat a day at Lassen Volcanic National Park.
