Located inside Mt. Shasta City Park, the Sacramento River Headwaters are where the Upper Sacramento River begins.  It's hard to believe that this spring is the beginning of such a large river.  As other creeks and sources of water make their way to the river, it gets much bigger, quickly...but this is where it all begins.  The "wow" factor for what this spring becomes just miles down the road is pretty big.
How to get there:
If you're traveling north on I-5; take the West Lake Street exit and make a right.  Take a left on N. Mt. Shasta Blvd and the park will be on your left, one mile later.
If you're traveling south on I-5; take the N. Mt Shasta Blvd exit and follow it left.  The park will be on your right just a short distance later.
More info:
It's a short walk from the parking lot to the Headwaters viewing area.
Other things to do in the area:
Shastice Park is just across town and is home to the Mt. Shasta Skatepark, the Mt. Shasta Bike Park and the Siskiyou Ice Rink.  The Sisson Museum is one of the best museums in the area and is also home to the Mt. Shasta Fish Hatchery.  Spend the day at Castle Lake or Lake Siskiyou for some fun in the sun.  There are also some wonderful Art Galleries in the area.
