Completed in 1945, people come from all over to check out the country's second largest dam.  The Visitor Center offers breathtaking views of the Dam, Shasta Lake and the majestic mountain scenery surrounding them.  There is also a large grassy area and picnic tables for your enjoyment.
Take a walk across the dam and check out gorgeous views of the lake as well as the cascading water flowing back into the Sacramento River.
The Dam offers tours and if you have the time, it's a pretty cool experience to join one of them.
How to get there:

There are quite a few ways to get there depending on where you start.  Check out the map for your best route.
More info:
Visitor Center hours are 8am-5pm.  Tours happen at 9am, 11am, 1pm & 3pm.  Hours can change without notice so be sure to call ahead if you plan on taking the tour. Tour tickets are available at the Visitor Center.  Check out the Dam's Website for more information.
Other things to do in the area:
If you're going to drive out to visit the Dam, you should also save some time to play around the Lake.  Boating, fishing, camping, hiking, picnics and other activities are very popular on and around the lake.  The northern trailhead for the Sacramento River Trail is very near the dam as well.
