Weott - (13.4 miles; Loop) - Look Prairie / Peavine Ridge

We've done this hike twice and only saw one mountain biker the second time around.  If you're looking for sunshine, heat and solitude, this is the hike for you.  The trail takes visitors through meadows, lots of gorgeous trees and offers some pretty incredible views. 
The trail is well maintained but there are quite a few exposed roots that require a little more effort and attention to avoid. 
The first three or so miles move up the mountain along Look Prairie Road and are beautiful.  There is plenty of wildlife to be seen in this section; at least in our experience.  Once you reach the top, you have a choice; turn around for a 6 mile out & back or make the left on Peavine Ridge Road and commit to the loop.  The benefit of moving taking the loop is that peace and solitude will surround you the whole way.  The last 5 or so miles is downhill, for the most part, and rejoins Mattole Road at the Albee Campground.  The whole hike is peaceful and centered in the lushness of Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

How to get there:
Take Mattole Road West from Highway 101 toward Petrolia/Honeydew.  About 4 miles down the road, you'll see the Blue Slide Parking area on your left and then the Big Tress Area after that.  The trailhead is in between these two on the right.  Check out the map for more detailed info. 
More info:
Bring plenty of water and food on this hike.  It can get hot and you'll definitely need the extra energy to get through the entrie loop.
