Discovery Park is a 302-acre park that is bordered by both the Sacramento and American Rivers.  The park has an archery range, boat launch, picnic tables, plenty of shade and space to spread out & relax and much more.
One of the trailheads for the Jedediah Smith Bike Trail starts at Discovery Park so you can ride out and return to the park as part of your visit.
Fishing is a popular activity at the park as is taking a peaceful stroll along one of the park's trails.

How to get there:
From I-5, take the Garden Highway exit, just north of the American River, and head east.  The park will be almost immediately on your right.  Take a look at the map for more specific directions.
More info:
There is a $5 fee to enter the park.  The American and Sacramento Rivers sometimes move really fast.  Use caution when swimming here.
Other things to do in the area:
Catch an exciting Roller Derby bout or visit Sutter's Fort State Historic Park while in the area.  The Capitol Museum is a pretty interesting place as is The California Museum
