The expansive mudflats at the Bandon Marsh Unit are teeming with a motley assortment of clams, crabs, worms and shrimp, which provide a nourishing meal for migrating shorebirds.  The refuge is renowned for its excellent shorebird viewing opportunities and birdwatchers visiting in the spring or fall can expect to see thousands of Western and Least Sandpiper, Semipalated Plover, Black-bellied Plover, Pacific Golden Plover, Red Phalarope, Whimbrel, Dunlin and rarities like Ruff. 
Waterfowl, herons and falcons can also be viewed from the Bandon Marsh observation deck located on the west side of Riverside Drive.  
Even non-birders will enjoy the expansive grounds, beautiful views and peace that can be found here.
 
How to get there:
Just north of Coquille River Bridge, find the marsh just off of North Bank Road.  Take a look at the map for more specific directions.

Other things to do in the area:
Seven Devils State Recreation Site is nice beach that also has part of the Oregon Coastal Trail going through it.  Bullards Beach is also worth checking out.  The Bandon Historical Society Museum will give you a little history of the area and is definitely worth exploring.
