Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is a true gem of the California State Parks System.  Made up of almost 45 percent of all of the old-growth redwood forest remaining in California, it's worth a visit anytime of year.  The park offers hiking and biking trails (75 miles worth!), camping, beachcombing, redwood and beach picknicking and more.  It's also home to Gold Bluffs Beach and Fern Canyon
Visitors will also find plenty of wildlife including; Roosevelt elk, deer, coyote, black bears, mountain lions and bobcats just to name a few.
How to get there:
Traveling north or south on Highway 101, take Davison Road west.  Davison road, which is three miles north of Orick, quickly turns into a narrow gravel road and is 8 miles to the park entrance.
Take a look at the map for directions on how to get to the park via the Newton B Drury Scenic Parkway.
