In any season, a visit to the Mendocino Headlands will provide a memorable experience.  You might come to see the spring wildflowers, enjoy a crisp and clear fall day, escape to a cool summer climate or witness the winter migration of gray whales but whatever the reason, the park is an incredible place to visit while in the Mendocino area.
Activities within the park include; hiking, biking, surfing, swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking and fishing...just to name a few.  Wildlife viewing is especially popular here as well. 
Within the park, you can also find the Ford House Museum, a cultural site that offers history, art, exhibits and educational programs.
Big River Beach and the Big River Estuary State Marine Conservation Area are also found within the park and should definitely be a part of your Mendocino Headlands visit.  

How to get there:
The Headlands more or less surround the town of Mendocino.  From Highway 1, take any exit into Mendocino and head toward the coast.  You'll be there in a couple of minutes.

Other things to do in the area: 
If you want to visit some other beautiful beaches/parks, head north to Russian Gulch State Park.  To the south, in Little River, you'll find Van Damme State Park.  The area is also flush with wonderful Art Galleries & Museums and has a great Farmers' Market
