Van Damme State Park, split into two parts by Highway 1, has both beach and wooded environments that facilitate a wide range of recreational and relaxation opportunities.  The campground and most of the park's 2,000+ acres are on the east side of the highway while the beach is on the west.
Because of its geographical location and that the Van Damme State Marine Conservation Area is part of the park, scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, fishing and boating are some of the popular activities here.
There are also plenty of walking, biking and hiking trails, interpretive exhibits and other family-friendly programs, lots of wildlife viewing, geocaching and much more.  Don't miss the Pygmy Forest while you're there; it's really cool.

How to get there:
The park is just a few miles south of the town of Mendocino right along the highway.  You'll see plenty of signs telling you where the entrance is.
Camping info:
The campground has 63 standard sites, 5 tent-only sites and one group camp area.  There are basic amenities and lots of things to do around the campground.  For more info about camping, click HERE.

Visit the Park's Website for more information and a list of the fantastic trails you can take within the park.
Other things to do in the area:
Just north, in Mendocino, check out some of the incredible Art Galleries in the area.  Big River Beach and Point Cabrillo Lighthouse and State Park are also great stops.  To the south, Greenwood State Beach and Gualala Point Regional Park are both wonderful places to spend the day.
